Conference League: Spartans land Faroese tie with NSÍ Runavík

Spartans to face NSÍ Runavík in the Conference League

Ħamrun Spartans FC have learned their opponents for the first qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League: Faroe Islands side NSÍ Runavík. The Spartans, who qualified for Europe through their Maltese Premier League campaign, will go head to head with one of the Faroe Islands’ most established clubs over two legs. Founded in 1957 and based in the eastern coastal town of Runavík, NSÍ are no strangers to continental football. They were crowned Faroese champions in 2007 — the proudest moment in their history — and have finished as league runners-up on three occasions, becoming regular participants in European competition since their first appearance in 2003. Much of NSÍ’s threat runs through veteran striker Klæmint Olsen, the all-time leading goalscorer in Faroese top-flight history and a long-serving Faroe Islands international. The hometown forward remains his side’s talisman, and keeping him quiet over the two legs will be central to the Spartans’ hopes of progressing. It promises to be a demanding tie, with the Faroese league in full swing through the summer, but one that offers our supporters another exciting European occasion to look forward to. Further details, including dates, venues and ticketing information, will be announced in due course. #HamrunSpartans #ConferenceLeague
