Stunning Prsa Free-Kick Secures Win for Ħamrun Spartans
Ħamrun Spartans claimed an important 1-0 win over Birkirkara in their Top Six opener of the Malta Premier League 2024/25, thanks to a brilliant second-half free-kick from Roko Prsa.
The match was a tough battle, with chances for both sides. Ħamrun had the first big opportunity in the 10th minute, but Prsa’s early effort went just wide. Birkirkara also threatened with a header from Maxuell Maia, which was well saved by Henry Bonello.
The decisive moment came in the 63rd minute. Neil Micallef of Birkirkara was sent off after handling the ball and stopping a clear goal-scoring opportunity. From the resulting free-kick, Roko Prsa curled the ball beautifully into the top corner to score the only goal of the game.
Despite being down to ten men, Birkirkara tried to fight back but couldn’t find a way past Ħamrun’s defense. In the final moments of the match, they were reduced to nine players when captain Alex Satariano also received a red card.
This result marks Ħamrun Spartans’ second consecutive win and lifts them to second place in the Top Six standings, just two points behind leaders Marsaxlokk. With more big matches coming up, the race at the top remains very tight.
