Ħamrun Spartans with Solid Win Over Mosta

Ħamrun Spartans continued their positive momentum in the Malta Premier League Top Six by defeating Mosta 2-0 in a strong all-round performance. The win temporarily places the Spartans at the top of the Closing Round standings with 23 points.

After losing their last three league meetings against Mosta, Ħamrun turned things around in this important fixture under new coach Winston Muscat.

The breakthrough came in the 12th minute when Joseph Mbong showed great skill to cut inside from the right and fire a powerful left-footed shot into the top corner. Ħamrun doubled their lead in stoppage time of the first half through a well-placed header by Raphael Lopes Silva from a corner delivered by Roko Prsa.

Mosta tried to push forward but struggled in the final third and failed to create real threats. Their best chances came from Giancarlo Goncalves and Prince Afriyie, but both efforts were well handled by Ħamrun’s goalkeeper Henry Bonello.

The second half saw Ħamrun controlling the tempo and managing the game smartly, despite picking up injuries to key players Sven Xerri and Emerson Marcelina.

With this result, Ħamrun leapfrogged Marsaxlokk and Floriana in the standings, strengthening their position in the title race as only three games remain.
