Bonello Shines as Ħamrun Hold Floriana

Ħamrun Spartans played out a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Floriana in one of the most anticipated matches of the Malta Premier League 2024/25 Closing Round.

Both teams entered the match needing all three points to stay ahead in the title race, but neither side could find the breakthrough. Floriana had the better chances in the first half and were only denied by a brilliant performance from Ħamrun goalkeeper Henry Bonello, who made several key saves and was deservedly named Player of the Match.

Ħamrun responded in the second half with more control and possession, but struggled to break down Floriana’s defense. Their best chance came through Menacho, who couldn’t finish from close range.

Five minutes from time, the Spartans were reduced to ten men after Steve Borg received a second yellow card, ending any hopes of a late winner.

With this result, Ħamrun Spartans drop to second place, one point behind leaders Marsaxlokk. The title race remains wide open with only a few matches to go.

Final Score:
Floriana 0 – 0 Ħamrun Spartans
Player of the Match: Henry Bonello (Ħamrun Spartans)
Red Card: Steve Borg (Ħamrun Spartans – 85’)
Referee: Malcolm Spiteri
