Ħamrun Spartans Cruise Past Naxxar Lions to Secure Top Six Spot

Ħamrun Spartans confirmed their place in the Top Six of the Malta Premier League with a dominant 4-0 win over Naxxar Lions on Matchday 27.

The Spartans were in full control from the start. Just 8 minutes in, Roko Prsa’s header forced a corner, and from that same corner, Naxxar captain Neil Pace Cocks accidentally scored an own goal under pressure.

Things quickly got worse for Naxxar. In the 24th minute, Ħamrun’s goalkeeper Henry Bonello launched a long ball forward, helped by the wind, and it surprisingly beat Naxxar’s keeper Andre Fenech to make it 2-0.

A minute later, Raphael Lopes hit the post, and from the resulting corner, Roko Prsa curled the ball directly into the net to extend the lead to 3-0 by halftime.

In the second half, Ħamrun kept up the pressure. Substitute Mihael Klepac went close early on, and in the 66th minute, Naxxar’s only clear chance from Ito Yasukaze missed the target.

The fourth and final goal came after a defensive mistake from Naxxar, allowing Raphael Lopes to score with a low shot into the corner.

With this impressive win, Ħamrun Spartans now sit level on points with Hibernians but take the Top Six spot due to their superior head-to-head result. Their fans at the Gozo Stadium had every reason to celebrate, as the team keeps their title hopes alive.
